Directors’ Welcome Video: CU Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation PhD Program

Slides from original in-person introductory presentation

Project Summary

  • Client: CU Dept. of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PhD Program)
  • Goal: 5-minute Directors’ Welcome video for invited interview candidates
  • Deliverables: 2-director on-camera video + teleprompter + polished edit
  • Turnaround: Oct 29 → Dec 19 (ready to use)
  • Use case: Evergreen content for multiple recruiting cycles

Client’s Goal:

The Communications Manager for CU’s Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and the CU Physical Therapy Program wanted a 5-minute Directors’ Welcome video for prospective PhD students invited to interview for the class of 2028. The video needed to introduce both directors, reinforce the program’s values, and give a big-picture view of the profession in a format the department could reuse for several years. In short, they wanted a polished video version of the in-person welcome presentation.

My Approach:

For continuity purposes, the first thing I did was to review the presentation the directors were already using to understand the structure and style. Traditionally, the directors gave the presentation simultaneously, which works great in-person, but can be awkward on video if one person is speaking and the other person is not.  I opted to film them separately and edit them together as the each discussed the topics.

I encouraged both directors to write out scripts for the teleprompter. Like many people, they were hesitant. While it is more work up-front, it makes the whole filming and editing process so much more efficient for everyone.

In choosing a filming time and location, we settled on the morning and in one of the director’s office. One of my priorities, especially when working with busy people, is to make the filming experience as convenient as possible.

The Result:

The Communications Manager and both Directors we’re very pleased with the final video. Quick turnaround: They had reached out to me on Oct 29, 2025 and had the ready-to-use video by Dec 19, 2025.

The final video gave the program a consistent, professional welcome message they can reuse for several years, with a comfortable on-camera delivery from both directors.
